Barbaresco "Paje" 2016 75 cl Roagna
RoagnaPajè is one of the most important vineyards of Barbaresco, it enjoys the perfect exposure and soil for Nebbiolo. Barbaresco Pajè Roagna is a wine that is obtained from plants with an average age of about 40 years, which give clusters of excellent quality. It ferments spontaneously in wooden vats and refines in oak barrels for 5 years. A fantastic Barbaresco, initially dominated by a ripe fruit followed by balsamic and spicy notes, on the palate it is velvety and enveloping, with a long savory finish of extreme elegance.
Barbaresco Pajè by Roagna takes its name from the Piedmontese dialect, with which the different vineyards at the time were historically named.
We are facing one of the historic vineyards of Barbaresco, facing South West, overlooking the valley of the Tanaro river and favored by an ideal microclimate that mitigates cold winters and hot summers. The vines grow on soils particularly rich in calcareous marl, with a high content of active limestone.
The grapes used for Barbaresco Pajé come from plants aged between 25 and 50 years, where the average age exceeds 40. The vines are exclusively of mass origin with wood obtained by pruning from this vineyard.
Harvesting is done manually when the grapes are fully ripe, in October. After a meticulous selection of the berries, selecting only the fruits of perfect integrity, the grapes are vinified and subsequently left to ferment in wooden vats on indigenous yeasts for about 10 days. Then follows the maceration, carried out with the ancient technique of splinting or submerged cap, which lasts for 60-70 days. At this point the Barbaresco Pajè by Roagna ages in oak barrels for about 5 years.
The production of bottles is very limited, with less than 10.000 bottles per thousandth.
