Brunello di Montalcino "CastelGiocondo" 2021 75 cl Frescobaldi
FrescobaldiBrunello di Montalcino DOCG CastelGiocondo 2021
Tenuta CastelGiocondo - Frescobaldi
Frescobaldi's exceptional "CastelGiocondo" 2021 is a red wine with a unique, punchy, and balanced character, produced on the majestic Tuscan estate of the same name, boasting the distinction of being among the first four estates to produce the historic Brunello di Montalcino.
Owned by the ancient Frescobaldi family, Tenuta CastelGiocondo and its vineyards, located at 300 meters above sea level in the southwest area of Montalcino, are the home of the traditional Sangiovese grape. The grapes, vinified as a single varietal, come from vines that benefit from varying exposures while rooted in heterogeneous soils, lending a unique character to the wine.
The 2021 vintage was distinguished by highly variable weather patterns. Indeed, a mild and rainy winter, which favored early bud break, was offset by a sudden drop in temperatures in April, which slowed bud development. Subsequently, the gradual rise in temperatures culminated in a summer that combined a prolonged period of scorching heat with significant day-night temperature variations. Despite this constant change, the grapes were impeccably healthy at harvest time.
The bunches undergo a rigorous double selection process, carried out in the vineyard and in the cellar, so that only the finest will continue on to become "CastelGiocondo" 2021. Vinification then involves both fermentations taking place in stainless steel tanks, and once completed, the wine ages extensively in wood, developing a refined harmony and complexity, further refined by a final aging in the bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, CastelGiocondo 2021 captivates from the first glance with its compact and sparkling ruby red color, revealing a dense aromatic layering. Initial sensations of sweet violet, rose hip, and berries are followed by spicy notes of star anise, white and black pepper, all enhanced by hints of tea leaves and tobacco, coffee, and licorice. On the palate, the enveloping sip is characterized by tannins that are clearly present but perfectly interwoven into the structure, and is crossed by a pleasant acidity that enhances its pleasantness. The finish, along with its persistence, boasts textbook length.
An extremely versatile Brunello di Montalcino that you will never tire of tasting!
