Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St Jacques" 2018 75 cl Armand Rousseau
Rousseau ArmandGevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques Armand Rousseau, this majestic red wine owes its name to the discovery of a statue of Saint Jacques inside a chapel dedicated to it, which is located on one of the many routes to Santiago de Compostela.
The area is divided into vertical strips belonging to 5 different owners.
The domain has 1/3 of the total area of the Clos. Exposed to the south / south east with maximum sunshine, it nevertheless benefits from the influence of the Lavaux comb which gives it a lot of freshness. It is implicitly recognized as a Grand Cru. Le Clos Saint Jacques is one of the forgotten appellations during the classification of AOC Grands Crus. In fact, Clos Saint Jacques was a monopoly of the Earl of Moucheron until 1954. It is said that this fervent realist did not want to present his wine to a Republican system of classification of textures.
The Pinot Noir grapes of Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques grow on very fertile soils. Compound, on the top of the Clos de Marnes of ostrea acuminata which gives a very superficial clayey soil. Water does not stagnate in the ground. The slope descends following the surface of the marl. The marl confers fat giving the wines material and specificity. At the center of the plot is located on a deeper ground (about 60 cm) resting on interlocking limestone of the Bajoc. The soil is rich in clay and limestone. The bottom of the plot rests on Premeaux limestones giving soils rich in limestone. The result is a very harmonious fresh terroir.
The tannins are strong and well integrated, with dominant aromas of black currant and small black fruits. The wine is powerful and intense on the palate.
