Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC is a Tuscan icon, a harmonious red wine of extraordinary expression of the territory. Refines 18 months in barrique and 12 months in the cellar. The 2019 vintage produced a fresh and aromatic Ornellaia, with balsamic and aromatic herbs notes. In the mouth it is balanced and enveloping, with elegant tannins and a crunchy finish.
Ornellaia 2019 Bolgheri DOC, a unique red wine, composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a very variable climate, which alternated periods of cold and rain with long periods of drought and heat. The last week of September saw a lowering of temperatures which made it possible to preserve a great finesse and aromatic freshness.
The Ornellaia 2019 harvest began slowly on September 5th with the hand harvesting in 15 kg crates and the bunches were carefully selected and subjected to soft pressing.
Each variety was vinified separately, the alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel vats and partly in concrete at 26-30 ° C for a week, followed by a maceration of about 15 days. The malolactic fermentation took place in oak barriques (70% new and 30% second passage).
The wine remained in barriques in the Ornellaia cellar at a controlled temperature for a period of about 18 months. After the first 12 months the assembly was carried out and then reintroduced into the barriques, where it spent another 6 months. Finally, the wine is bottled and kept in the Ornellaia cellar for another 12 months before being placed on the market.
The color of Ornellaia 2019 is intense red, the nose is spicy and balsamic, with notes of aromatic herbs, sage and black pepper. In the mouth it is enveloping and full-bodied, with elegant tannins and a crunchy and persistent finish.
