50 & 50 2016 75 cl Avignonesi Capannelle
Avignonesi Capannelle50 & 50 Avignonesi Capannelle is a wine born from the friendship that binds the owners of Avignonesi to Montepulciano and Capannelle in the Chianti Classico, and their common desire to aspire to excellence with their wines.
It was produced for the first time in 1988, almost by chance: during a convivial dinner, the owners of the two companies jokingly compared their wines, and mixed them with each other, until they reached the blend of 50 % Sangiovese and 50% Merlot we know today. They had created something truly unique.
Merlot is produced by Avignonesi, on the Lodola estate in Valiano di Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany. Sangiovese is produced by Capanelle, a farm located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico.
The grapes harvested for the 50's and 50's are the result of a careful selection of the best grapes. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and maceration on the skins for 20-25 days. Refinement takes place in French barriques.
In the glass it has a deep, dark ruby red color with purple hues. The nose has a fragrance of small red fruits, black currant, black cherry and cassis which then leave room for harmonious nuances of sweet spices such as vanilla and sandalwood. In the mouth it is satisfying and never banal. Sweetness and tannins are perfectly combined in a broad, elegant, decisive and round taste symphony. The flavors are of ripe fruit and spices enriched with balsamic notes of mint and thyme. The finish is long and soft, all to be savored.
