Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Cosecha 1986, an extraordinarily long-lived Spanish white wine.
The grapes selected for this wine come from Pago Capellania, planted in 1945 and positioned at an altitude of 485 meters in the Finca Ygay area owned by Marques de Murrieta. Rioja Alta.
Castillo Ygay is made with 97% Viura and 3% Malvasia grapes.
Production begins at the beginning of October with a slow and progressive rhythm, which follows the climatic conditions which, in turn, contribute to an excellent development of the bunches, reaching optimal ripeness. The clusters of the Viura variety, which produces large clusters with small berries, were the first to be harvested. The alcohol content in the grapes was 13.5% with a high level of acidity.
The entire mass of bunches is crushed and pressed in a vertical wooden press. Fermentation and aging take place in 225 liter American oak barrels for 252 months and 67 months in a concrete tank.
Bottled on 29th January 2014.
Perfect to combine with Iberian ham, stuffed capon, truffled cheeses, white veal.
100 Parker points - Wine Advocate (USA) "It seems to be getting younger and younger with time in the glass, I have no doubt that we are talking about a white for the next 50 years. This wine is simply stunning."
