Sassicaia DOC 2021 Tenuta San Guido is one of the most important red wines in the world.
2021 is a beautiful vintage for this Italian icon.
The grapes that compose it are: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The soils on which the vineyards grow are mainly composed of limestone areas rich in marl, clay, stones and stones (from which the wine takes its name), and are located at an altitude between 100 and 300 m above sea level, with exposure to west/southwest.
Sassicaia 2021 Tenuta San Guido saw a favorable climate trend, starting from an autumn and winter of fluctuating temperatures with large quantities of rain. A panacea for underground water reserves. From February, temperatures gradually rose until mid-April, when temperatures dropped close to 0°C, causing a thinning of the buds in the early vines such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a vegetative slowdown. Since the end of May, temperatures have risen, anticipating summer, with dry heat and normal temperatures.
The development of the vine was regular with smaller bunches and berries which influenced the quantity of wine produced. Maturity occurred in perfect balance thanks to the excellent climatic conditions. The grapes were healthy and of excellent quality.
The 2021 Sassicaia harvest begins in the first days of September and ends in the first week of October when the bunches are fully ripe. As soon as they arrive in the cellar, the grapes are selected on the sorting table. This is followed by soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation, carried out at a controlled temperature of 28-29°C. The malolactic fermentation takes place in steel and then passes into 2nd and 3rd passage French oak barriques (Tronçais, Allier and Jupilles) for refinement which lasted 24 months. Sassicaia 2021 is moved to steel tanks and further selected before final blending and completing bottle refinement.
Sassicaia 2021 Tenuta San Guido is a fine wine of great splendour. This vintage gave this wine a notable concentration of aromas without giving up a nice freshness and flavor. A vintage that will be remembered!
