Primitivo di Manduria DOP "Sessantanni" San Marzano is a persuasive and full-bodied red wine, with sweet aromas of red fruits, which expresses a strong link with the Apulian territory.
Primitivo "Sessantanni" comes from 100% Primitivo grapes owned by Cantine San Marzano, meticulously chosen from the vineyard and among the oldest vineyards in the area between the municipality of San Marzano and Sava, in the province of Taranto, and among all these vineyards it has used only the vines with over sixty years of life to create this wine.
The land on which the vines stand is characterized by a reddish colour, due to the strong presence of iron oxides, with a calcareous substrate and sparse rocky outcrops.
The thermal values characterize a rather warm environment, with very low annual rainfall and very high temperature ranges, a condition which has a beneficial influence on the quality of the grapes.
The harvest is done by hand in the second half of September, when the grapes are in an advanced state of ripeness. Maceration takes place for at least 18 days, with carefully selected indigenous yeasts in the vineyard and then moves on to fermentation at a controlled temperature of 24-26°.
Finally, the refinement takes place for 12 months in fine French and American oak barriques.
Primitivo Sessantanni Cantine San Marzano is an excellent wine to drink immediately but which manages to maintain all its organoleptic characteristics for a further 7 years.
