Champagne Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 75 cl Krug
Krug Clos du Mesnil, a Champagne that showcases the uniqueness of its character and enhances the sparkling purity of a single walled plot of vines (clos in French) in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and of a single Chardonnay grape of a single vintage, 2006.
2006 was considered a hot year in Champagne, with temperatures exceeding 30 ° C and a fluctuating climate, ranging from dry periods to heavy rainfall. In August, the equivalent of 2 months of rain fell in just 2 weeks. Fortunately, the sun has returned to complete the ripening period. The grapes showed a balance similar to that of 2002 and 1989, also beautiful and generous years.
The Clos du Mesnil harvest took place between 14 and 16 September 2006 and offered splendidly ripe grapes.
After more than 12 years in the cellars of Krug, this champagne shows its precise signature and surprising grace, revealing a vintage of rare beauty.
As with all Krug Champagnes, Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 will continue to mature and evolve over time.
At first glance, it has an intense and luminous golden color. On the nose, delicate aromas of citrus, barley sugar and dried fruit with balance and freshness. On the palate the Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 is generous and round with good intensity. Initial accents of madeleine and brioche give way to notes of pastry, lemon meringue, bitter orange and spices. The finish is long, with great tension and notes of candied ginger.
Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 pairs beautifully with fish or shellfish dishes such as sole fillet in saffron sauce, seared scallops or tuna carpaccio. It can also be enjoyed with delicate-flavored meat dishes such as veal blanquette.
